Choledochoduodenostomy;Follow-up Study

Abstract
A follow-up study was conducted on a limited number of cases who underwent choledochoduo
denostomy for the obstruction of common bile duct from various causes. The results obtained were
as follows;
1. choledochoduodenostomy was physiologically ideal and technically not complicated.
2. The operative mortality was nil.
3. Regurgitation of intestinal contents into the biliary tract did not necessarily cause "ascending
cholangitis". Rather, the patency of anastomosis seemed to be of more significance in this respect.
4. Postoperative barium meal study was invaluable in determining the condition of the stoma at
the anastomotic site.
5. It is believed that choledochoduodenostomy should be carried out as a routine operation in
select primary choledocholithiasis.
